Pierrot, Mystery, & Romance is our theme for March 1. In 1915, Claude Debussy began work on a cycle of “six sonatas for various instruments” inspired by 18th century court music and images of Pierrot, the tragic clown, baying at the moon. We’ll perform two of the finished pieces (sonatas for cello and violin) as well as Schumann’s declamatory and poetic piano quintet. Rounding out the program will be our annual Mystery Piece competition: guess the composer and win a pair of free tickets!
